The YMCA Bangalore organized Model City Corporation Competition on 27th Nov 2013 for school and P.U.C students from 9.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. at City YMCA, Nrupathunga Road, Bangalore – 560 001. In this programme 20 students from each school were made to enact in 30 minutes a Model City corporation council with
The YMCA is conducting the Model City Corporation competition for the Eighth year. Its main aim is to train the young people in the functioning of Corporation Council of a city. It enables the young people to understand how the city corporators are elected? How do they participate in the Corporation council? And what are the issues they address and tackle in making the city people comfortable. This programme will go a long way in making them useful citizens. This programme also helps them to develop the leadership qualities, Oratory skill and team work. The schools were encouraged to enact the same programme in their respective school so that the other students of the school be educated in this subject.
This year eight schools participated in the competition. Few other schools witnessed the programme. Dr. M. Antony Isaac, Associate General Secretary of YMCA Bangalore trained the students at their school before the competition. Mrs. Porkodi Prabakaran, Principal. Bishop Cotton Women’s Law College was the chief guest. Dr. S. Philip Lewis, Vice President, YMCA Bangalore and Dr. P. Sethu- Treasurer, YMCA Bangalore were the special Guests. Mr. S. V. Rathna Kumar, General Secretary, YMCA Bangalore welcomed the gathering.
St. Thomas Public School won the best Model City Corporation Council Cup. Seventh Day Adventist P.U. College won the second best Model City Corporation council cup. Mr. Nikhil from St. Thomas Public school won the Best Mayor Cup.
Youth For Social Action Camp was jointly organized by YMCA Bangalore and the Student Christian Movement of India for college students from 25th to 27th October 2013 at Yellagiri Hills. All the participants boarded Brindavan Express at Cantonment Railway Station to Jolharpet on 25th Oct 2013, from there reached YMCA Yellagiri Camp centre by a Bus. 25 students and Facilitators participated in this programme. The students were from St. Joseph’s college, Bishop Cotton Women’s Law College and M.E.S College. Dr. M. Antony Isaac, Mr. Inbaraj, Mr. Immanuel and Mr. Janardhan were the Felicitators. Dr. M. Antony Isaac, Associate General Secretary of YMCA Bangalore gave introduction about the Camp activities to the campers on 25th Oct 2013. Mr. Bennet Benjamin gave Keynote address. Documentary presentation and talent night, camp fire was presented by Mr. Inbaraj and Mr. Immanuel. The camp exposed the students to various social issues of the community. They also visited a tribal village near the hills. In the concluding session the participants had committed to be part of the social activities specially to work among the needy community of our Society. The team safely returned to Bangalore on 27th October 2013.
