The YMCA Rural Centre which has been serving the rural community since 1960 has been renamed as YMCA Centre for Education and skill Development in the year 2008 with a thrust to impart quality education and job skill training to the rural and semi-urban children and youth. This centre provides vocational skill training in computers, sewing and entrepreneurship skills to the youth of Bangalore urban and rural districts. The youth are also empowered in various supportive skills like communication, Spoken English, career guidance and personality development. This effort is helping many poor and underprivileged youth to obtain a job oriented skill to find suitable employment or to be self employed.
YMCA realized the need for a school in this part of the city to provide quality education to the poor and underprivileged children. Stemming from this need, a pre-nursery School was started in the year 2009. The following year the school showed remarkable progress and the school was upgraded up to 4th standard during the academic year 2010-11. Now the school has around 250 children from pre-nursery to 10th std and all of them come from poor families in the villages surrounding Kumbalgodu in Bangalore district. YMCA school is a great support for the people of this area to get quality education and life skills. The school is duly recognized by the Govt of Karnataka. Our vision is to see that all the children irrespective of their economic condition, caste or religion get equal opportunity for learning and become successful in life.
The YMCA centre imparts sewing and embroidery skill training to the young women in Kumbalgodu area.
